Welcome to the Studio

by Michael Bishop

Welcome to my studio—or at least, the digital version of it. I'm Michael Bishop, and I've been working with clay for over fifteen years.

My journey into ceramics began in the high desert of Utah, where I first encountered Studio Ceramics. Studying under Shane Christensen in High school I wanted the potters way of life. I went on to earn a undergraduate degree from Dixie State University and a Master of fine arts degree from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania Studying under Lee Rexroad and Chuck Johnson. My path has led me to education at the high school and University level. I now teach high school students the in the exact place that I fell in love with the craft.

Today, my work is based in the functional studio ceramics tradition. I'm drawn to atmospheric firing practices and my work is made with that in mind.

This blog will be a place for studio updates, new work, and the occasional reflection on process. Thanks for being here.
